In my first semester of college, I partnered with fellow engineering student James Butts to create a blackjack game, with the twist that flashcards can be imported to help one study, “gamifying” the study process.

We were ultimately voted as best software in the class of 36 honors students, and presented to a panel at a showcase of the best projects from each section of stuents within the College of Engineering.

We used the OSU-developed proteus simulator libraries and wrote in C, and this Software Development Project was part of the IBE cornerstone (first year capstone series) projects in the Honors Fundamentals of Engineering curriculum.

Below are screenshots of the game. Included is a menu screen, with a space to study flashcards (get chips to play blackjack with), as well as the actual dealer. We drew custom pixel art for each card and suit, as well as the backgrounds and all layers of the game. A custom font was imported from a friend’s github library, as the default proteus libraries are not complex enough to change size or color.
